The Workbench: Real Projects, Local Know-How on the Cassowary Coast

Welcome to The Workbench — the official blog for Fix My Home.

This is where we’ll share behind-the-scenes stories, real project updates, and practical building work happening across the Cassowary Coast.

Fix My Home is based in Kennedy and is primarily servicing Cardwell at the moment, while also working across Tully, Mission Beach, and Ingham. We’ve been part of this region for years, with deep local ties and a reputation for turning up, getting stuck in, and doing the job properly.

At the centre of it all is Scott Ashton, with 20+ years of building and carpentry experience. Scott is on the tools, on-site, and hands-on with the work. Building is in his blood from both sides of the family. His grandfather Billy Ashton is part of the long local history in Tully. On his mum’s side, his grandfather Sam Cavallaro built many places in Cardwell before retiring to Kennedy Valley, where he built a retreat for church groups. Jenne handles the admin, the calls, and the late nights behind the scenes to keep everything moving.

From repairs and maintenance to renovations and custom carpentry, we work on the kinds of projects local homes and businesses actually need. No fluff. No big-company runaround. Just reliable service and quality workmanship.

We know the conditions up here. Wet weather. Salt air. Tropical wear and tear. That local knowledge matters across Cardwell, Kennedy, Tully, Mission Beach, and Ingham, and it shows in the way we build and repair.

The Workbench will be our space to show what’s happening on-site, share finished results, and give you a better look at the work behind the Fix My Home name.

If you’ve got a project in mind, get in touch. We’d love to help.
